"It might surprise you to hear what Heidi Tate has to say about her devotion to performing on the trampoline.
“I believe that people like art”, Heidi says, “because it’s a way of expressing yourself and forgetting about everything else that’s going on.”
Not many people would describe the sport of trampolining as an art, but Heidi, an individual of many talents in several areas of endeavor, possesses a unique perspective on her favorite sport (or is that art?).

Heidi, a grade nine student, excels in academics, athletics, arts, and service. As a young girl, she participated in competitive gymnastics for four years before beginning trampolining. For several years now, Heidi has been travelling back and forth between her trampoline club, Club Aviva Gymnastics, in Coquitlam, and her home on the North Shore. She endures the long car rides and lost sleep time out of love for what she does.
She says of her passion for trampoline, “It’s lots of fun and I never want to stop trampolining.” She adds, “Although trampoline is considered a sport, it is also considered a part of the arts.” For Heidi, the trampoline is a means of artistic expression. On the trampoline she is a creator of movement.
Even though her days are often filled with trampoline practice, Heidi is always sure to make time for her other interests and hobbies. Dance is one of those hobbies and it is one that she says, “has really helped with [her] coordination and balance on the trampoline.”
Heidi hopes to one day go to the world championships in trampoline. Her reasons include getting a chance to meet many amazing athletes/artists. So will this talented young trampolinist continue pursuing her passion? Her answer is a clear yes: “It challenges me in so many ways and it’s so much fun. I hope that I never quit.”
